Day Five from Torrent Bay Lodge to Wilson's Office

Day 5 Saturday February 20, 2016
After another filling breakfast at Torrent Bay Lodge (and relief for some that the cinnamon swirl was not cinnamon swill), twenty one of us headed off in brilliant sunshine on the final 16 km leg of the coastal track. Retracing some of the steps taken the previous day we crossed the sparkling Torrent River and began a gentle climb. After a rest break and story time from Amy regarding the history of the area, we continued through to our lunch spot at Apple Tree Bay while enjoying stunning views of Tasman Bay. At Apple Tree Bay we were met by Fiona, Kaye, Connie and Joy who had chosen to shorten the walk with a boat ride. Lunch and a cuppa were enjoyed in the welcome shade of the pines on the beach. A small number took a swim. The final leg of the walk gave us panoramic views of Marahau Bay, a large tidal estuary which was quite a contrast from the lush greenery of earlier in the day. Upon reaching our destination at Marahau we delighted in the long anticipated ice-cream. Then it was into the bus for our transfer back to Wilson’s where we said good bye to our guides Whitey, Amy and Michelle and paid the bar bill! A great day to end a great trip. Thanks everyone!
